That day.. the story of ALPHA
Founder and designer
My mind began to do that thing
where it starts to panic at the most crucial time (what seems to be my go-to coping mechanism) and the voice inside my head just kept saying things like “you are not ready, it won’t work, get your head out of the clouds, you are not good enough…” It urged me to “walk away now” to “save myself from the embarrassment and failure” that surely awaited.
Let me rewind a bit. My BIG goal that year (2012) was to work for REEBOK as their photographer. You see, as a new mother to my daughter, I had vowed to only produce authentic images in all of my work, not the over edited, unrealistic “perfect” shots we are constantly bombarded with in our daily lives. My motivation to shoot for REEBOK came from the brand’s standard of leaving their images untouched - the perfect match to my own ethos. REEBOK also uses real athletes rather than models, AND I personally love their products.
To make a long story short, I was getting ready to go and introduce myself to the gentleman who was in charge of hiring REEBOK’s next photographer; I was going to ask him point-blank, face-to-face for my chance to shoot for the company. GULP!
I was standing in the washroom trying my best to halt the on-going negative voice inside my head, when I glanced at myself in the mirror. That moment I saw ME-the one that had come this far and had so much to offer, the one that deserved the chance, the one that had committed to lead by example for her daughter.
I was wearing a titanium quarts necklace that I made for myself and it sparkled in the mirror. I placed my hand on it and I felt its strength radiating. I found the courage within to silence the voice.
“SHUT THE F*CK UP” I silently screamed.
Right there, in the concrete jungle, submerged under fluorescent lights and WiFi fields, I managed to strip away the voice of doubt within my head and feel the overwhelming power of the Universe within me as I allowed myself to take the next step towards creating the life I had envisioned.
I am happy to say that I completely #goalcrushed and today I am throwing it back and sharing some of my favorite shots I have curated for REEBOK in the years that followed...
I chose to share this story because it was not the first time nor was it the last time I have encountered this debilitating self-doubt. It is an underlying theme in almost every task I take on, but the real story here is the one about overcoming it and choosing to chase my goals with every ounce of my purpose, despite what anyone (including my inner voice) has to say about it. Two years after I had this experience, I went on to create ROCKING VIBE. Since then, it has been my goal to inspire others by sharing the knowledge of how truly empowering stones and gems can be.
So go ahead look in the mirror, believe in yourself, and arm yourself with tools that will help you become the best version of yourself.
The necklace I was wearing that day has become a staple piece in the ROCKING VIBE collection and is known as ALPHA.
To this day I put it on when I need to dig deep and step out of my comfort zone.
"With a simple yet bold presence, this piece serves as a reminder that you are here to lead the way. You are a voice, not an echo! ALPHA is one of our original, signature designs. It is edgy, unrefined, and is destined to help you evolve your independence! From t-shirt and jeans to that little black dress bring it along when you need to stand firmly on your own two feet and persevere."
I BOUGHT THE RAINBOW STONE BECAUSE I KEPT BEING DRAWN TO IT WHENEVER I LOOKED AT THE WEBSITE. NOT SURE IF IT'S JUST IN MY HEAD, BUT I ACTUALLY FEEL STRONGER WHEN I WEAR THIS NECKLACE. I LOVE THE WAY THE LIGHT CATCHES IT.
I LOVE MY ALPHA NECKLACE! IT’S A BOLD STATEMENT PIECE THAT REMINDS ME TO WALK WITH CONFIDENCE.
I WAS DRAWN TO THE RAINBOW ALPHA NECKLACE ON STEEL AS SOON AS I LAID EYES ON IT! I WEAR IT CASUALLY DAILY, BUT I ALSO LOVE TO DRESS IT UP AS WELL. I RECEIVE COMPLIMENTS ALLL THE TIME. THANKS ROCKING VIBE XO
